Inclement Weather
In case of Snow, tune into Snowbird (WSMV Channel 4), will send out a school-wide closure email. We will also send out a school-wide email anytime we have an unexpected closing. If we have to close early, be prepared to pick up the children within the hour. Our Teachers have to get to their families and homes safely too. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
During tornado warnings El Jardin de Los Niños/The Children’s Garden staff and students take shelter in the safest location in our building, the basement hallway. No one is allowed to return to the classrooms, or be released to parents, until the emergency has passed and metro tornado sirens have been turned off.
Unfortunately, due to DHS restrictions on our scheduling, we are unable to offer make-up days for inclement weather.
Illness / Communicable Diseases
Please be considerate of other El Jardin de Los Niños/The Children’s Garden students and staff members by keeping your sick child(ren) at home. We ask that you notify the school when children are absent due to an illness and it is particularly critical to notify El Jardin de Los Niños/The Children’s Garden when a child has contracted an infectious or communicable disease.
Unfortunately, due to DHS restrictions on our scheduling, we are unable to offer make-up days for illness.
The director and/or site supervisor has the right to send children home who exhibit any illness. Any positive cases of COVID/flu/RSV/HFM (hand foot and mouth), or other infectious diseases, reported to the office will be sent out as a “Health Alert” to all families who have a child in that same class. We will not close class or require a class-wide quarantine unless we have multiple cases reported.
- No child may come to school within 48 hours of vomiting, diarrhea, or having a fever. This is a change from our previous 24 hours. We have found that 24 hours is not a sufficient amount of time to prevent the illness from spreading.
- Any positive test/diagnosis for COVID/flu/RSV/HFM for a student or anyone living in the same household as the student must be reported to the administrative team immediately. We require a 10-day quarantine for any household that tests positive for one of these four things after we are notified. To return to school, a doctor’s note is required.
- Any child that misses 2+ days of school (or 3+ days if attending both schools) due to illness, must have a doctor’s note clearing them to return to school. It must state that the child does not have COVID, the flu, RSV, or HFM.
- No child may come to school with a persistent cough, runny nose, or sneezing unless you provide a note from their doctor stating that these are due to allergies or residual symptoms from a previous illness they no longer carry.
- Families that receive health alerts or have children exhibiting the following should see their pediatrician.
- Untreated infectious skin patches or painful diaper rash
- Sore throat or difficulty swallowing
- Evidence of lice, scabies or other parasitic infection
- Communicable or contagious diseases
- Temperature above 100.1 degrees
- Pain in ears
When a child becomes ill at school:
- Parents will be immediately notified to pick up their child within an hour
- Ill children may not participate in school activities
- Children must be symptom free for at least 48 hours before returning to school
- Upon notification of a communicable disease El Jardin de Los Niños/The Children’s Garden will notify families and provide a disease fact sheet when available.
